After our Hokitika adventures, we decided to have a great American family vacation in Greymouth. “Mom and Dad” took me to Shantytown, a historic NZ theme park, and the Monteith’s Brewery downtown.
Lizzy says: TOO MANY? No.
We woke up early the next day, but somehow still managed to leave just under the wire. It’s a good thing Kara has become quick at packing the car. We took our time after that completing chores and (unbeknownst to me) getting some serious shade from a local shopkeep.
We drove the rest of the morning to Arthur’s Pass, and we stopped to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches then get coffees and pie in the Arthur’s Pass village just outside of Arthur’s Pass national park (yes, I know). It ended up being good that we did because Lizzy was able to see her first wild kea! It was an adult, and it was very good at marking young tourist girls who were easily frightened away from their tables. Lizzy, of course, followed it to take pictures. The keas we have seen are all very brave, and this one hopped on the tables and came very close to inspect our plates. The shop owner came out and told us that one in particular was a bit of menace, but we were glad to see another kea.
Lizzy notes: OVERCONFIDENCE KILLS, JORDAN BONE. (Everyone who reads this better knock on some wood.)
